How come whole grain rice cakes are high GI, and agave syrup is low GI?

Question by Amber: How come whole grain rice cakes are high GI, and agave syrup is low GI?
Fruit and agave syrups are so sweet, with no fiber, I would think they would be higher GI than whole grain rice cakes..
The question is, why is agave syrup a slow releasing sugar, when rice cakes are whole grain which is supposed to be slow releasing, but considered high GI..
